The Levin Institute -
JumpStart NYC brings talented out-of-work, mid-career professionals together with small business owners and entrepreneurs for a ten-week consulting fellowship at no cost to the business owner. These consulting fellows bring their extensive business experience and talents to bear during their fellowship and offer the small business owner access to talent that would likely not be otherwise available to them.
The mission of JumpStart NYC is to help unemployed professionals rethink their careers with the goal of becoming financially self-sustaining. In service of that goal they are matched with small business owners and entrepreneurs for these consulting fellowships in order to help them assess if they would like to join the ranks of entrepreneurs, migrate their skills to a small company and/or begin their own business consulting practices.
By availing themselves of this talent pool, business owners have the opportunity to try out new talent, infuse new skill sets into their organization, supplement their existing skill base and gain new insights from a “fresh pair of eyes”. Consulting fellows are available for approximately 200 hours of work over the course of a ten-week period. Small businesses interested in participating should be prepared to submit a project proposal that is clear in scope with identified, specific deliverables. Additionally they will need to provide appropriate “on boarding” (e.g.: education, introductions, company background and information) and appropriate mentoring and networking opportunities.
JumpStart NYC is open to projects from businesses that operate in the five boroughs of New York City. JumpStart NYC participants (the consulting fellows) must be unemployed professionals who reside in New York City, have a minimum of a Bachelors degree and have at least three years of relevant work experience.
